What are the criteria for choosing optional: Previous results or availability of content?

Hi, I have engineering background. Pls suggest which optional (humanities) will be useful for me.

The optional decision can’t be taken on the basis of a single factor; apart from education background, one’s aptitude and style of study matters a lot. If someone would prefer a subject, which is close to sciences and is structural, then psychology could a great option; similarly Geography is also good on this parameter, but it has a lot of data and larger syllabus as well, however, it would help you with GS preparation as well.

Thus, each option has its pros and cons and it is better you zero-in a few subjects and ask a specific question or visit our office for discussion, as it is a decision you must take after considering your strengths and no, one size fit all, approach works here.
